Fast Start Sends Men's Lacrosse Past John Carroll

Sophomore midfielder Henry Ross (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mount Si) scored 3 goals and senior attacker Carson Geier (Milford) added 2 more as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with an 8-1 run and went on to a non-conference win over John Carroll on Saturday at Selby Stadium.

Junior attacker Will Siegenthaler (Elmhurst, Ill./York) put the Bishops on the scoreboard in the opening minutes of the game and Ross followed with a score midway through the first quarter before Geier found the back of the net with 2:50 remaining.

Larry Voss brought the Blue Streaks within 3-1, but Ross answered with a goal during the final seconds of the quarter before Geier, junior midfielder Garrett Smith (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), and sophomore attacker Wade Beckstrom (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) followed with scores.  Ross added a goal midway through the second period to give the Bishops an 8-1 lead.

Braden Zarek scored twice as the visitors closed to within 9-4 at the half, and Frank LaForce made it 9-5 with a goal early in the third quarter, but Ohio Wesleyan finished off the third quarter with a 5-1 run that included 2 goals by Ross to take a 14-6 lead heading into the final stanza.

Ross led the Bishops with 6 goals and an assist, while Backstrom finished with 3 goals and 5 assists and Geier registered a hat trick. 
Senior Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) made 6 saves during the first 56-plus minutes and sophomore Jason Mosher (Hilton, N.Y.) had 1 save during the final 3 minutes.
