DePauw 8, Ohio Wesleyan 1
Ohio Wesleyan 7, DePauw 3

Junior outfielder Matt Spencer (Hilliard/Darby) doubled in a run to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead during a 4-run first inning, and the Bishops went on to win the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Littick Field.

In the opener, DePauw's Jamison Lewis and Finn O'Meara combined on a 3-hitter and Grady Johnson drove in 6 runs as the Tigers took the win.

Senior outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) led off the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap with a grounder to the right side that DePauw second baseman Nate Heflin tracked down, but Heflin's throw to first was low and away, and Stoner was safe on the play.  One out later, j
unior first baseman Alex Snyder (Massillon/Jackson) was hit by a pitch and Spencer doubled to center to plate Stoner.  The Bishops got RBI singles from junior first baseman Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.), junior catcher Carter Vilevac (Sheffield Village/Brookside), and sophomore third baseman Luke Johnson (Cincinnati/Batavia West Clermont) to make it 4-0.

DePauw pushed across a run in the fourth on a pair of singles and a double play, but the Bishops answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning on a 2-out throwing error, and Ohio Wesleyan added a run in the seventh courtesy of another Tiger miscue.

Vitense, Johnson, and sophomore third baseman Michael Malone (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll) each went 2-for-4 for the Bishops.

Junior righthander Paul Krueger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Township) faced the minimum through the first 3.0 innings, thanks in part to a first-inning double play by the Bishops.  Krueger worked the first 5.0 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 4 while walking none, to record the win.

In the opener, DePauw scored in the second on a walk to Nolan Whitehead, a double by Louis Florida, and an infield out off the bat of Tyler Walkey.  Florida's solo homer made it 2-0 in the fourth, and the visitors got a 2-run single from Grady Johnson to take a 4-0 lead in the fifth.

Ohio Wesleyan got on the board in the seventh when Vitense singled, moved to third on a double by Vilevac, and scored on a wild pitch.

Johnson belted a grand slam in the top of the ninth for the 8-1 final.

Sophomore righthander Jacob Lowery (Lyndhurst/Gilmour Academy) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan
.
