Wabash Sweeps Baseball in NCAC Twinbill

Junior outfielder Matt Spencer (Hilliard/Darby) and junior catcher Carter Vilevac (Sheffield Village/Brookside) knocked in runs as Ohio Wesleyan took a 3-0 first-inning lead, but Wabash rallied for a win in the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Littick Field.

In the opener, the Little Giants built a 10-0 lead and went on to the win.

Junior righthander Parker Tomlin (Atlanta, Ga./Westerville (Ohio) Central) and Wabash's Caleb Everson locked up in a pitchers' duel in the opener, trading zeroes through the first 4.0 innings.

Wabash broke through with 4 runs in the fifth, capped by a 2-run single by D.J. Mendez, and added 6 runs in the sixth, highlighted by Benjamin Henke's 3-run homer.

The Bishops got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore third baseman Luke Johnson (Cincinnati/Batavia West Clermont) led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch, and added 2 runs in the seventh as sophomore third baseman Michael Malone (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll) knocked in a run, but Wabash got a 3-run homer from Camden Scheidt in the top of the eighth and closed out the win in the bottom of the inning.

Johnson was 2-for-3 and senior second baseman Ryan Duckworth (Hilliard/Bradley) went 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Tomlin was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.

The Bishops took an early lead in the nightcap as Spencer and Vilevac plated runs, but Wabash answered with 8 runs in the top of the second, highlighted by a grand slam by Scheidt.

Junior first baseman Alex Snyder (Massillon/Jackson) drew a bases-loaded walk during a 2-run fifth that brought the Bishops within 9-5, but the Little Giants pulled away with 5 runs in the eighth, getting a home run from Will McKinzie and taking advantage of a pair of Bishop errors during the inning.

Duckworth went 3-for-4 and senior outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) was 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Sophomore righthander Jacob Lowery (Lyndhurst/Gilmour Academy) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan
