Dortmund Wins 2 Events, Bishops Second at All-Ohio

Freshman Katherine Dortmund (Westerville/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) won 2 events, helped a relay team to a win, and took part in 2 record-setting performances in leading Ohio Wesleyan during the second day of the All-Ohio championship meet, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Selby Stadium and the George Gauthier Track.

Ohio Northern won the meet with 139 points to 130½ for Ohio Wesleyan.  Otterbein was third with 78½ points, followed by Baldwin Wallace (74), Case Reserve (67), Denison (58), Oberlin (57), Kenyon (48), Wooster (36½), Marietta (27½), Muskingum (22½), Heidelberg (21), and Capital (7½).

Dortmund won the 100-meter dash in :12.13, breaking the school record of :12.20 set by Amanda Clay in 2015.  Dortmund also broke the tape in the 100-meter hurdles in :14.19 and won All-Ohio honors with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash.

Dortmund also combined with freshman Kennedy Elfers (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), sophomore Amarah McPhaul (Muncie, Ind./Daleville), and freshman Aelyn Baumbarger (Marysville) to win the 400-meter relay in :47.86, breaking the All-Ohio record of :47.91 set by Mount Union in 2013.

Also winning All-Ohio titles were sophomore Sophie Cotts (Granville), who won the 5000-meter run in 18:20.06; and the 1600-meter relay team of senior Aliisa James (Miamisburg/Dayton Christian), Elfers, freshman Yehdeiah Dennis (Columbus/Beechcroft), and sophomore Brianna Montgomery (Gibsonburg), which won in 4:06.38.

All-Ohio recognition also went to junior Hazel Jolliff (Cardington/Cardington-Lincoln), who was second in the javelin; junior McKenna Downing (Pleasant Hill/Newton Local), who finished third in the 800-meter run; and sophomore Allison Dietz (Newark), who placed third in the 1500-meter run.

Other standouts for the Bishops included Baumbarger, who finished fourth in the 100- and 200-meter dashes; freshman Ella Chomic (Westerville/Columbus School for Girls), who placed fourth in the 1500-meter run; junior Emily Davis (Brimfield/Mogadore Field), who was fourth in the discus; James, who finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles; McPhaul, who placed fifth in the high jump; Elfers, who was sixth in the 100- and 200-meter dashes; senior Ashley Beatty (Delaware/Buckeye Valley), who finished sixth in the 1500-meter run; freshman Niyah Shipman (North Robinson/Colonel Crawford), who was sixth in the long jump; junior Claire Coleman (Cincinnati/Ursuline Academy), who tied for seventh in the pole vault; and sophomore Alexis Eusey (Marengo/Highland), who placed eighth in the javelin
