Bishops Rally Past Owls, Move to 5-0 in NCAC

Junior midfielder Garrett Smith (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) scored 3 times as Ohio Wesleyan finished the game with a 4-1 run to close out a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon on Tuesday in Gambier.

The teams played evenly through the first 52 minutes, with the score tied at 4 after the first period, knotted at 6 at halftime, and even at 8 after the third quarter.  Ohio Wesleyan opened the fourth period with scores from senior midfielder Brady Hunt (Maineville/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) and junior attacker Will Siegenthaler (Elmhurst, Ill./York), but Kenyon countered with goals by Cameron Longay and Rollins Heath to tie the game at 10 with 8:07 left in regulation time.

Smith scored an unassisted goal with 6:43 remaining to put the Bishops
ahead to stay, then junior midfielder Noah Citek (Long Beach, Calif./St. John Bosco) won the ensuing face-off and passed to senior midfielder Anthony Fresolone (Marblehead, Mass./Kimball Union Academy (N.H.)) for a goal just 9 seconds later.

The Owls closed to within 12-11 on Hill Carter's goal with 4:48 remaining, but Smith rang up back-to-back goals, scoring first with 2:51 to play and again just 29 seconds after that, to stretch the margin to 14-11.  Ohio Wesleyan won the ensuing face-off and maintained possession until there was less than a minute to play.  Kenyon got off a pair of shots during the closing seconds, but senior Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) made the save on both.

Smith led the Bishops with 5 goals, while senior midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) finished with 3.  George stopped 15 shots in the Bishop crease

Junior midfielder Noah Citek (Long Beach, Calif./St. John Bosco) picked up 6 ground balls in the game, raising his career total to 359, breaking the career (2007-) record of 356 set by Sam Gioseffi from 2012-15.
