Kenyon Sweeps Baseball in NCAC Doubleheader

Senior outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) singled home a run to give Ohio Wesleyan an 8-7 lead, but Kenyon rallied for a win in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday in Gambier.

In the nightcap, junior outfielder Colton Moone (South Vienna/Northeastern) drove in a run that gave the Bishops a 3-1 lead, but Kenyon rallied for a win to complete the sweep.

Junior outfielder Matt Spencer (Hilliard/Darby) plated Stoner to give the Bishops a 1-0 lead in the opener, and sophomore third baseman Luke Johnson (Cincinnati/Batavia West Clermont) had a 2-run single to highlight a 4-run fifth frame that made it 5-0.  Kenyon answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, getting a 2-run double by Ben Resnick along the way.

Johnson singled in a run to cap a 3-run outburst in the sixth, but again, the Owls had an answer, with Parker Gibbons hitting a 3-run homer during a 4-run uprising that tied the game at 7.

Stoner's RBI single gave the Bishops an 8-7 lead in the top of the eighth, but Dustin Lee led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to even the game at 8.

Kenyon loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth on a by Will Nelson and walks to Nate Rosen and Lee before Luke Meister ended the game with a grand slam.

Johnson was 4-for-5 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Sophomore righthander Jacob Lowery (Lyndhurst/Gilmour Academy) was the losing pitcher in relief.

Stoner singled in a run in the fifth inning of the nightcap to break a 1-1 tie, and Moone's sacrifice fly in the sixth plated Spencer for a 3-1 Bishop lead.

The Owls tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Lee and Gibbons.

Ohio Wesleyan threatened in the seventh, loading the bases with one out, and got a leadoff triple by junior catcher Blake Pettit (Hilliard/Davidson) in the eighth, but the runners were stranded.

Kenyon took the lead with a 4-run eighth that included a 2-run single by Gibbons.

Junior first baseman Alex Snyder (Massillon/Jackson) doubled in a run in the ninth to make it 7-4, but that was as close as the Bishops would come.

Stoner was 3-for-5 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Fifth-year righthander Mason Timko (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Allegheny) was the losing pitcher in relief
