Frary Walk-Off Lifts Women's Lacrosse Over DePauw

Junior attacker Sam Frary (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley Charter) converted a free-position shot as time expired to lift Ohio Wesleyan over DePauw in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday in Greencastle, Ind.

Ohio Wesleyan trailed, 14-13, when sophomore attacker Brie Colangelo (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown School) scored a power-play goal to tie the game with 2:45 remaining.

Freshman midfielder Emma Reynolds (Delaware/Columbus Bishop Watterson) had a look at the go-ahead score, but Tiger keeper Niamh Callahan made the save with 1:52 to play.

DePauw's Rosalie Tasker hit the pipe with a shot with just under a minute to play, and the Tigers had a free-position attempt with :34 left but turned the ball over without getting off a shot.

Fouled with less than a second to play, Frary stepped to the 8-meter arc and whistled a shot into the back of the net to give the Bishops the win.

Ohio Wesleyan had broken a 4-4 tie with a 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead at the intermission, and the Bishops led by an 11-5 count after a goal by s
enior attacker Caroline Fleming (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Fayette) early in the third quarter.  DePauw assembled a 5-0 run during the fourth period, taking the 14-13 lead on a Kate Sullivan 8-meter goal with 3:41 left in regulation time.

Fleming scored a team-high 5 goals, and Colangelo collected 3 goals and 5 assists.  The 5 goals raised Fleming's season total to 50, making her the eighth Ohio Wesleyan women's lacrosse player to reach that mark.  The 5 assists raised Colangelo's season total to 38, breaking the Ohio Wesleyan record of 36 set by Amy Newell in 1989.

Senior Abby Markowitz (Las Vegas, Nev./Somerset Academy) was credited with 7 saves.


Junior defender Abbie Grogan (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) had 4 ground balls
on the day, raising her career total to 159, surpassing the career mark (2007-) of 155 set by Eilee Foley from 2012-15.
