Wilmington Sweeps Softball

Senior first baseman Sophie Leohner (Upper Arlington) singled in a run that gave Ohio Wesleyan an early lead, but Wilmington rallied for a win in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday in Wilmington.

In the opener, Wilmington's Makenzie O'Neil tossed a 3-hit shutout to lead the Quakers to the win.

Freshman shortstop Lexi Stratton (Woodhaven, Mich.) led off the nightcap with a walk, moved to third on a Quaker error, and scored on Leohner's single to give the Bishops the lead.

Wilmington evened the score on Haley Johnson's RBI single in the bottom of the inning, then got a bases-clearing double from Jocelyn Franz in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Freshman outfielder Kennedy Dean (Jamestown/Greeneview) was 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Junior righthander Makenna Knisely (Washington Court House/Washington) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.

Ohio Wesleyan threatened in the second inning of the opener, getting a one-out single by Leohner and a 2-out double by freshman shortstop Caity Journey (Nashport/Dresden Tri-Valley), but the runners were stranded at second and third.

In the bottom of the inning, the Quakers struck for 6 runs, with Addysten Stevens driving a 2-run double.  Judaea Wilson added a 2-run double in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
