Strange, Hess Compete in NCAC Decathlon

Sophomore Michael Strange (High Bridge,N.J./Voorhees) and freshman Michael Hess (Painesville/Fairport Harding) represented Ohio Wesleyan at the North Coast Athletic Conference combined-events meet, hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday in Oberlin.

DePauw's Daniel Jansen was leading the meet with 3271 points to 3148 for Strange.  Hess was in sixth place with 2799 points.

Strange opened and closed Saturday with wins, turning in the meet's best times in the 100- and 400-meter dashes with respective efforts of :11.20 and :51.81.  Strange had the third-best mark in the long jump with a 20-2¼ and was fifth in the shot put (32-2¾) and sixth in the high jump (5-5).

Hess's best performances also came in the sprints as he posted the second-best time in the 400-meter dash in :53.20 and the fourth-best clocking in the 100-meter dash in :11.70.  Hess also was fifth overall in the high jump with a height of 5-6.


The NCAC decathlon is scheduled to conclude on Sunday with the 110-meter hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin, and the 1500-meter run.
