Strange Wins All-NCAC Honors, Hess Places in Decathlon

Sophomore Michael Strange (High Bridge,N.J./Voorhees) won All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors and freshman Michael Hess (Painesville/Fairport Harding) placed in the decathlon during the second day of the NCAC combined-events meet, hosted by Oberlin College on Sunday in Oberlin.

DePauw's Daniel Jansen won the event with 6155 points to 5830 for Strange.  Hess finished fourth with 5354 points.

Strange opened Sunday with the second-best time in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in :15.69 to pick up 768 points.  Strange was third in the discus with a throw of 103-7, fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 11-3¾, fourth in the javelin with a throw of 126-2, and finished the meet with the third-best time in the 1500-meter run, finishing in 5:05.17.

Strange opened and closed Saturday's competition with wins, turning in the meet's best times in the 100- and 400-meter dashes with respective efforts of :11.20 and :51.81.  Strange had the third-best mark in the long jump with a 20-2¼ and was fifth in the shot put (32-2¾) and sixth in the high jump (5-5).

Hess opened and closed Sunday with wins, recording the meet's best times in the 110-meter hurdles and the 1500-meter run with respective performances of :15.60 and 4:50.44.  Hess had the fourth-best mark in the discus with a throw of 101-9.  On Saturday, Hess's best performances came in the sprints as he posted the second-best time in the 400-meter dash in :53.20 and the fourth-best clocking in the 100-meter dash in :11.70.  Hess also was fifth overall in the high jump with a height of 5-6.


The 13 points scored by Ohio Wesleyan will carry over to the NCAC championship meet, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.
