Ohio Wesleyan 8, Marietta 0

Junior righthander Makenna Knisley (Washington Court House/Washington) tossed a no-hitter and freshman shortstop Caity Journey (Nashport/Dresden Tri-Valley) knocked in 3 runs as Ohio Wesleyan defeated Marietta in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Margaret Sagan Field.

In the opener, the Bishops took a 2-1 lead on a 2-run homer by senior catcher Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen), but the Pioneers rallied for the win.

Journey singled home fifth-year third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark) to put the Bishops on the scoreboard in the third inning of the nightcap.  Sophomore outfielder Chameron Vanden Eynden (Goshen) scored on a wild pitch and senior first baseman Sophie Leohner (Upper Arlington) singled in a run later in the inning.

The Bishops added 5 runs in the fourth with the help of a 2-run single by Journey and a 2-run double by Panozzo.

Meanwhile, Knisley was in command, holding the visitors without a hit or a run.  Marietta drew 3 walks and advanced runners to second base in the second and third frames, but neither runner advanced further.

The no-hitter was the first for Ohio Wesleyan since Allie DeLooze and Bianca Sibilly teamed up on a 5-inning no-hitter against Oberlin on April 26, 2016, and the Bishops' first individual no-hitter since Amanda Barker fired a 5-inning gem against Elms on March 9, 2011.

Journey was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, and freshman outfielder Sylvie Devore (Dresden/Newark Licking Valley) went 2-for-2.

The Bishops trailed, 1-0, in the opener, but Panozzo launched a 2-run homer to left in the bottom of the first inning for Ohio Wesleyan's first round-tripper of the season.

Senior righthander Kaelyn Rodriguez (South El Monte, Calif.) worked out of jams in every inning after that, stranding 2 runners in the second, third, and fourth innings and stranding a runner at second base in the fifth.

Marietta took the lead in the sixth on an RBI double by Katie Sweeney and a run-scoring single from Becca Streets, and the visitors added some insurance in the seventh on Jordan Bradford's 2-run single.

Senior second baseman McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory School) was 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Rodriguez was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops
