Men's Track & Field Places Second at Marv Frye Invitational

Sophomore Dylan Harper (Marysville) and senior Coleman Kegler (Columbus/Upper Arlington) won events to lead Ohio Wesleyan at the Marv Frye Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Selby Stadium and the George Gauthier Track.

Baldwin Wallace won the meet with 260 points to 110½ for Ohio Wesleyan.  Albion was third with 85 points, followed by West Liberty (78½), Muskingum (48), Kenyon (41), Hiram (32), Ohio Christian (29), Capital (21), and Marietta (13).

Harper won the 110-meter hurdles in :14.87.

Kegler won the javelin with a throw of 162-0.

The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of junior Ryan Tripp (Sunbury/Big Walnut), junior Jake Marzulli (Medina), sophomore Connor Smith (Marysville), and senior Mason Myers (Perrysville/Hillsdale) won its event in 3:24.18.

Other standouts for the Bishops included Smith, who was second in the high jump and eighth in the 100-meter dash; freshman Michael Hess (Painesville/Fairport Harding), who finished second in the 400-meter hurdles; senior Simon Leck (Toledo/St. Francis DeSales), who was second in the 3000-meter steeplechase; freshman Tanner Sir Louis (Wadsworth), who placed third in the pole vault; freshman Dominic Brown (Marysville), who was third in the javelin; senior Preston Pethtel (Heath), who finished fourth in the 1500-meter run; freshman Jacob Blubaugh (Columbus/Bishop Ready), who placed fourth in the 800-meter run; Myers, who was fifth in the long jump and eighth in the 400-meter dash; junior Mack Fincham (Springfield/Kenton Ridge), who finished sixth in the pole vault; junior Chinedu Melenu (Bowie, Md.), who placed sixth in the triple jump; Tripp, who finished sixth in the 400-meter dash; senior Logan McSwords (Marysville), who placed seventh in the javelin; junior Griffin Sawyer (Rocky River), who tied for seventh in the pole vault; sophomore Jayson Dyer (Kenton), who finished seventh in the triple jump; senior Trey Good (Marysville/Milford Center Fairbanks), who was eighth in the javelin; and sophomore Michael Strange (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees), who placed eighth in the 200-meter dash.

The Bishop 400-meter relay team of freshman Logan Lang (Sunbury/Big Walnut), junior Joaquim Bila (Westbrook, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy), Brown, and sophomore Alex Stoller (Waverly) finished third.

The Marv Frye Invitational honors the late Battling Bishop mentor, who coached the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team from 1961-97.  Frye also coached men's cross country, women's track & field, and women's cross country during his time at Ohio Wesleyan, and remained active in the central Ohio track & field community for many years after his retirement.
