Women's Track & Field Wins Marv Frye Invitational

Freshman Katherine Dortmund (Westerville/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) won an event and helped a relay team to a win to help the Bishops take the team title at the Marv Frye Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Selby Stadium and the George Gauthier Track.

Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 207 points to 155½ for Baldwin Wallace.  West Liberty finished third with 101 points, followed by Kenyon (65), Hiram (55), Albion and Muskingum (48), Marietta (23), Ohio Christian (18), and Capital (1½).

Dortmund won the 100-meter hurdles in :14.65 and added a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash and a fifth in the 200-meter dash. Dortmund also combined with freshman Kennedy Elfers (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), sophomore Amarah McPhaul (Muncie, Ind./Daleville), and freshman Aelyn Baumbarger (Marysville) to win the 400-meter relay in :48.05.

Also winning events for Ohio Wesleyan were freshman Niyah Shipman (North Robinson/Colonel Crawford), who won the long jump with a leap of 17-7; sophomore Jada Colvin (Cleveland/Mayfield), who won the triple jump with a mark of 32-6½; and senior Aliisa James (Miamisburg/Dayton Christian), who won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.77.

Other standouts for the Bishops included Baumbarger, who finished second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash; junior Emily Davis (Brimfield/Mogadore Field), who placed second in the discus and fifth in the hammer; sophomore Alexis Eusey (Marengo/Highland), who was second in the javelin; sophomore Lucy Johnson (Cleveland Heights/Lawrence), who finished second in the 5000-meter run; sophomore Addie Beck (Wadsworth), who tied for second in the pole vault; sophomore Elsa Hoam (Fredericktown), who placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase; Elfers, who finished third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 100-meter dash; McPhaul, who was third in the high jump and sixth in the 100- and 200-meter dashes; sophomore Allison Dietz (Newark), who finished third in the 1500-meter run; junior Coral Pierson (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), who placed third in the 100-meter hurdles; junior Emma Hall (Ironton), who placed fourth in the hammer; freshman Jera Hoy (Radnor/Buckeye Valley), who was fourth in the discus; junior McKenna Downing (Pleasant Hill/Newton Local), who placed fourth in the 1500-meter run; freshman Kali Kohler (Wapakoneta), who was fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles; freshman Ella Chomic (Westerville/Columbus School for Girls), who placed fifth in the 1500-meter run; freshman Abrianna Hite (Delaware/Hayes), who finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles; senior Ashley Beatty (Delaware/Buckeye Valley), who was sixth in the 1500-meter run; senior Katelyn Stapleton (Urbana/West Liberty-Salem), who finished sixth in the 800-meter run; freshman Yehdeiah Dennis (Columbus/Beechcroft), who placed seventh in the 400-meter dash; junior Claire Coleman (Cincinnati/Ursuline Academy), who finished eighth in the long jump; sophomore River Hamilton (Sunbury/Big Walnut), who was eighth in the 800-meter run; and sophomore Sarah Youngquist (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive), who tied for eighth in the pole vault;

The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of James, Dennis, Elfers, and sophomore Brianna Montgomery (Gibsonburg) finished second.


The Marv Frye Invitational honors the late Battling Bishop mentor, who coached the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team from 1961-97.  Frye also coached men's cross country, women's track & field, and women's cross country during his time at Ohio Wesleyan, and remained active in the central Ohio track & field community for many years after his retirement.
