Three Bishops Named NCAC Athletes of Week

Ohio Wesleyan University freshman Marcus Bode (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), freshman Katherine Dortmund (Westerville/Columbus St. Francis DeSales), and freshman Niyah Shipman (North Robinson/Colonel Crawford) have been named North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for the week of April 7, it was announced by the NCAC.

Bode, a member of the Ohio Wesleyan men's tennis team, was named Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week; Dortmund, a member of the Ohio Wesleyan women's track & field team, was named Women's Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week; and Shipman, a member of the Ohio Wesleyan women's track & field team, was named Women's Field Events Athlete of the Week.

Bode was a double winner in Ohio Wesleyan's 4-3 win over Wooster in the Bishops' NCAC opener on Sunday.  Bode recorded a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles for the deciding point as Ohio Wesleyan overcame a 3-2 deficit to win the match.  Earlier, Bode helped the Bishop No. 3 doubles team to a 7-6 (7-1) win to give the Bishops the doubles point.  The win was Ohio Wesleyan's first over Wooster since Feb. 22, 2019, when the Bishops defeated the Fighting Scots by a 5-4 count at Gordon Field House.

Dortmund won the 100-meter hurdles and helped the 400-meter relay team to a win as Ohio Wesleyan won the team title at the Marv Frye Invitational on Saturday.  Dortmund won the 100-meter hurdles in :14.65.  Dortmund also finished second overall and was the top NCAA Division III finisher in the 100-meter dash in :12.26, the best time in the NCAC this season, and placed fifth overall in the 200-meter dash in :26.55.  Dortmund also led off the Bishop 400-meter relay team, helping Ohio Wesleyan win the event in :48.05.  Dortmund scored 24½ points to help Ohio Wesleyan win the team title for the second straight year and the fourth time in 5 years.

Shipman won the long jump at the Marv Frye Invitational with a leap of 17-7.  Shipman's mark ranks second in the NCAC this season.  The 10 points helped Ohio Wesleyan win the team title for the second straight year and the fourth time in 5 years.
