St. John Fisher advances to the third round to face third-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology on Sunday.  The winner of Sunday's third-round game will advance to the national quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.

Ohio Wesleyan had taken a 13-12 lead on a goal by senior attacker Carson Geier (Milford) late in the third quarter, but the Cardinals closed out the quarter with scores by Matt Slowinski and Robbie Salit, then Ethan Kesselring opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a goal for a 15-13 SJFC lead.

Junior midfielder Garrett Smith (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) scored just 21 seconds later to bring the Bishops within 15-14, but the Cardinals countered with goals from Colin Blakeslee and Ethan Hodge to take a 17-14 lead midway through the quarter.

Senior long-stick midfielder Anthony Fresolone (Marblehead, Mass./Kimball Union Academy (N.H.)) rang up a goal with 2:19 remaining in regulation time, and a Cardinal penalty on the play gave the Bishops a man-up situation, which Ohio Wesleyan converted when senior midfielder Brady Hunt (Maineville/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) found Beckstrom for a score with 1:21 left in regulation time.

Junior midfielder Noah Citek (Long Beach, Calif./St. John Bosco) won the ensuing face-off and the Bishops called time out with 1:06 to play, but Ohio Wesleyan was not able to get off a shot at the equalizer.

Junior attacker Will Siegenthaler (Elmhurst, Ill./York), Beckstrom, Smith, and senior midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) scored during an early 4-1 run that staked the Bishops to a 4-2 lead, but Brett Seaman scored with :10 left in the first quarter and Hodge scored in the opening minute of the second quarter as the Cardinals tied the game at 4.

After goals by
sophomore midfielder Henry Ross (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mount Si) and Smith gave Ohio Wesleyan a 6-4 advantage, St. John Fisher went on a 5-1 run that included a pair of Brady Mason goals and resulted in a 9-7 Cardinal lead late in the first half.  That pattern repeated itself in the second half when goals by Ross and Geier gave Ohio Wesleyan the 13-12 lead before St. John Fisher countered with a 5-1 run.

Ross and Beckstrom each finished with 3 goals and 2 assists, and Siegenthaler also scored 3 goals.
Senior Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) made 10 saves, including 3 during the fourth quarter.

Citek tied a pair of school records on the day, collecting 20 ground balls to equal the mark set by Jesse Lawrence at Mount St. Joseph on March 24, 2012, and winning 22 face-offs, tying the record set by Lawrence at Mount St. Joseph on March 24, 2012, and tied by Zach Friedman against Wooster on April 23, 2016.
