Coleman Wins NCAC Pole Vault Title, Bishops Third After First Day

Junior Claire Coleman (Cincinnati/Ursuline Academy) won an event to lead Ohio Wesleyan during the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by DePauw University on Friday in Greencastle, Ind.

DePauw was leading the meet with 88 points to 58½ for Wittenberg.  Ohio Wesleyan was in third place with 29 points, followed by Denison (25), Kenyon and Wooster (22), Oberlin (14½), and Hiram (14).

Coleman won the pole vault by clearing 10-11¾.

Also winning All-NCAC honors were sophomore Jackie Rychlik (Marysville), who finished third in the pole vault; and junior Emma Hall (Ironton), who placed third in the hammer.

Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Addie Beck (Wadsworth), who tied for fourth in the pole vault; sophomore Alexis Eusey (Marengo/Highland), who was seventh in the shot put; and freshman Ava Sartini (Geneva), who tied for eighth in the pole vault.

In preliminary action, freshman Katherine Dortmund (Westerville/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) qualified for the finals in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the 100-meter hurdles, winning her heat and turning in the second-fastest time of the day in the 100-meter dash (:12.30) and 100-meter hurdles (:14.35).  Junior McKenna Downing (Pleasant Hill/Newton Local) won her heat and had the meet's best time in the 800-meter run with a 2:18.15.  Freshman Aelyn Baumbarger (Marysville) qualified for the finals in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.


The NCAC championship meet is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.
