DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's swimming & diving team competed in two meets over the past weekend, first hosting Oberlin on Friday followed by a road contest with Wooster on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Battling Bishops would fall in both, losing 205-72 to Oberlin and 170-45 to Wooster.
FRIDAY VS. OBERLIN
The Bishops got some points on the board early in the 200 yard medley relay with second and third place finishes. The team of
John Wion,
Ian Sander,
Evan Lucas, and
Nathan Ambler took second with a time of 1:38.98 followed by the team of
Eric Sander,
C.J. Abahazi,
Henry Gaudet, and
Alex Tovtyn at 1:43.32.
Eric Sander and Gaudet took the top two spots in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing with respective times of 1:49.22 and 1:49.45, good enough for second and third on the top times in the 200 free for the Red and Black this season. Sander also took the second spot in the 500 freestyle with a 5:13.11.
Wion and Gaudet were second and third in the 50 yard butterfly, finishing with times of 23.73 and 24.97. Wion's time was the fastest for OWU this season. He also won the 100 yard backstroke with a 52.93.
Abahazi got third 50 yard breaststroke – his first individual placement of the season – with a time of 30.88.
Lucas swam to a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.34.
Ambler finished third in the 100 yard freestyle, swimming a 50.30.
Ian Sander finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:01.34.
The Battling Bishops wrapped up the day with a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay from Ambler,
Ian Sander, Wion, and Gaudet turning in a 1:29.99.
SATURDAY AT WOOSTER
Ohio Wesleyan would start off the day taking second in the 400 yard medley relay with the team of
Eric Sander,
Ian Sander,
Collin Barth, and
Alex Tovtyn turning in a time of 3:49.13.
OWU's next top-three finish came in the 50 yard freestyle with
John Wion securing second place at 22.30. He also placed third in the 200 yard backstroke, swimming a 2:02.45
Eric Sander finished third in the 400 yard individual medley, swimming a 4:32.59.
Evan Lucas took third in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing with a 2:11.19.
Henry Gaudet turned in a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a 50.29.
Ian Sander swam a 2:20.02 for second place in the 200 yard breaststroke.
The Red and Black wrapped up the weekend with a second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay thanks to a 3:20.99 from Wion, Lucas, Gaudet, and
Nathan Ambler.
