GRANTLEY, Pa. – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team traveled east to Pennsylvania on Saturday for a mid-afternoon meeting with 6th-ranked York. After falling behind in the first quarter, the Bishops battled back to take the lead before the half. Unfortunately, a strong third quarter from the Spartans would ultimately spell defeat for the Battling Bishops, 18-12.
The Red and Black sink to 2-4 on the season. York's record now stands at 5-1.
OWU would find themselves in a hole early on as York stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter.
Noah Citek finally got the Bishops on the board at the last possible second, taking a faceoff straight to the cage to score with 0:01 left in the period and make it a 4-1 game at the first break.
This seemed to be the spark Ohio Wesleyan was looking for as it started off a 6-1 run.
Henry Ross added a second just seconds later, eight seconds into the second quarter. The Spartans attempted to put a stopper on the run with an immediate goal in response, but it was to no avail. The Battling Bishops followed with a string four in a row to claim a 6-5 lead with 3:50 remaining in the half. Will Seigenthaler provided the first with Ross supplying the other three. York would end up equalizing just before the half, leaving the game at 6-6.
Unfortunately, OWU would start the second half in similar fashion to the first, conceding six-straight to fall back behind 12-6. This was ultimately the last straw for the Bishops, unable to crawl back into the game after being outscored 7-1 in the third quarter and drawing the fourth quarter at 5-5. Siegenthaler recorded the lone goal for the Red and Black in the third, adding two more in the fourth.
Cole Tulgestke, Wade Backstrom, and Ross picked up the remaining three to leave the final score at 18-12.
