No. 20 Bishops Outmatched at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team traveled to take on Oberlin on Saturday afternoon. The Bishops were unable to stop the Yeomen through the first three quarters, leading to a lopsided 16-7 loss.

Ohio Wesleyan slips to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC. Oberlin improves to 7-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

Oberlin started with the opening goal around the 10-minute mark, followed by the first from OWU about a minute-and-a-half later. Wade Beckstrom put the Bishops on the board. The Battling Bishops tacked on another as Henry Ross scored with 3:49 remaining the first, assisted by Will Siegenthaler. This was preceded by back-to-back tallies from the Yeomen, ultimately making it a one-goal deficit for the Red and Black with a little less than four minutes left in the quarter. Unfortunately, Oberlin took full advantage of the remaining time with a trio of goals to make it 6-2 at the first break.

The Yeomen extended their run to four at the start of the second quarter before Garrett Smith put a stop to the streak with a net-finder off an assist from Ross at 11:26. This only momentarily stopped the bleeding as the hosts tallied another three in a row to take a demanding 10-3 lead. OWU would end the half on a high note with Beckstrom's second of the game – assisted by Tanner Hower – to keep the game within reach at 10-4.

Sadly, the game eventually fell out of reach in the second half as Ohio Wesleyan was outscored 5-2 in the third quarter and drew the fourth quarter at 1-1, leading to a 16-7 final. Beckstrom and Blake Altman managed to find the cage in the third, both assisted by Ross. Siegenthaler scored the last goal of the game.
