DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team hosted their last non-conference opponent of the regular season in the form of Mount Union at Selby Stadium on Saturday. It was the lowest-scoring game of OWU's season overall, with just 14 total goals between the two sides. In the end, Mount Union was just a bit too much for the Battling Bishops, edging out OWU 8-6.
The Red and Black sink to 6-2 entering NCAC play. Mount Union moves to 4-4.
It was a game of efficiency from the get-go and would ultimately be decided on the defensive end. Mount Union opened up with a 1-0 lead after shutting Ohio Wesleyan out in the first quarter. The Battling Bishops finally found the net with 12:23 left in the second quarter thanks to
Brie Colangelo. That was the first of two goals in the half for the Bishops, the other coming from
Tiffany Trinh with 2:10 remaining. On the other end, the Purple Raiders added three in the second quarter to make it a 4-2 game at the halftime break.
OWU would get one in the third quarter by Colangelo with an assist from
Riley Riordan, but this would be more than canceled out by three goals from Mount Union, leading to a four-goal deficit for the Bishops at 7-3 entering the final 15 minutes. The Red and Black pieced together a comeback with their highest-scoring quarter in the fourth, outscoring the Purple Raiders 3-1.
Lila Hall and
Emma Reynolds started it off with assists from Colangelo and
Sam Frary. Colangelo added another with about three minutes to go, but it was a futile effort as too many late turnovers left the Bishops two goals short – the final score: Ohio Wesleyan 6, Mount Union 8.
