Bishops Drop Second Game with Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University baseball team concluded their two-game home-and-home series with Otterbein on the road on Thursday evening, dropping a 9-3 contest. The Battling Bishops fall to 11-17 overall while Otterbein moves to 6-22.

The Cardinals came out of the gate ready to get back at the Bishops after Tuesday's contest went 13-7 in favor of OWU. Otterbein tallied all nine of their runs before the end of the fourth inning, scoring four in the first, three in the second, and one in each the third and the fourth for a quick 9-0 lead. On the other side, it took until the sixth inning for the Red and Black to cross the plate. Even then it was not enough as Ohio Wesleyan scored just two in the sixth and one in the ninth to go quietly with a 9-3 loss.

The sixth started with a walk by Holden Tomlin, who came around to score when the next batter, Marcus Suwinski, doubled to left center. Suwinski himself scored on the next play, which was a single by Alex Snyder. Despite putting two runs across before recording an out, the Battling Bishops' inning soon came to an end with two pop-ups and a flyout.

The lone run in the ninth was a result of three blunders by Cardinal pitching. First, Michael Malone reached as the leadoff man on a single to right. Next, he advanced to second on a balk and then third on a wild pitch, before scoring on a second balk, making the final score 9-3.
