UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's tennis team traveled to face new conference foe John Carroll on Thursday afternoon. The match would not be decided until the final singles match, ultimately ending in a winning decision for the Blue Streaks after a tiebreaker.
OWU improves to 6-8 on the season and 1-2 in the NCAC. John Carroll improves to 5-6 and earns their first NCAC win at 1-4.
The Battling Bishops took an early lead after doubles with
Ian Tsai and
Kobe Francis winning match one 7-6 (7-5) via tiebreaker, and
Gabe Fogle and
Marcus Bode bidding for a 6-3 victory in match two.
Zach Heister and
Rainer Holl lost an inconsequential match three 7-6 (8-6) via tiebreaker.
JCU evened the score by taking three of the first five singles matches. The two wins for OWU came from Fogle (2-6, 7-5, 6-3) and Heister (6-2, 6-3) in matches two and six. The three losing results stemmed from Tsai (6-0, 6-2), Bode (6-3, 6-0), and Francis (6-2, 6-1) in matches one, three, and four. Thus, the fate of the overall match lay on singles match five. Holl left everything he had on the court, forcing a tiebreak after splitting the first two sets 3-6 and 7-5, but would ultimately lose set three 6-7 (2-7) in a tiebreaker.
