DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University softball team opened up their home schedule on Thursday with a doubleheader against Capital. The Battling Bishops would struggle to get the bats going in both games, being shutout 11-0 and 3-0.
Ohio Wesleyan slips to 4-14 on the season. Capital improves to 12-8.
GAME ONE: OHIO WESLEYAN 0, CAPITAL 11
The Bishops collected just three hits in game one: one in the first inning, one in the second, and one in the fifth. Unable to string much offense together, The Red and Black would not cross the plate. On the other side, Capital put up three runs in the first inning, three in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth to force the game to end after five innings, 11-0.
Olivia Basil (L, 1-6) got the start and pitched the first 3.1 innings.
Shelby Morris finished the game, pitching 1.2 innings and recording two strikeouts.
The three hits for OWU came from
Rylee Myers,
Rylea Gist, and
Liv Yeary, all going 1-for-2.
Kennedy Dean was the only other baserunner for Ohio Wesleyan after reaching on a hit-by-pitch.
GAME TWO: OHIO WESLEYAN 0, CAPITAL 3
Game two was a classic pitchers duel with runs at a premium, going the distance with just three runs scored. Unfortunately, all three of those runs were in favor of the Purple and White, not the Red and Black, with Capital scoring one in each the first, the second, and the fourth innings.
The Battling Bishops' best chance to strike came in the second with runners on first and second following a walk, a fielder's choice, and a single. However, that was as close as OWU would come with an ensuing infield fly and a groundout to the pitcher. The only other hit for the Bishops came in the third inning and the game eventually ended 3-0.
Emma Dahlstrom (L, 0-2) pitched the full seven innings, striking out two.
Caity Journey and
Katie Enneking accounted for the two hits for Ohio Wesleyan, both going 1-for-2. Journey also reached on a walk alongside
Jessie Spurling.
