DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team traveled across state lines to conclude their conference schedule at Wabash on Wednesday afternoon. It was all Battling Bishops from the very beginning as OWU outscored the Little Giants 12-2 in the first half on the way to a 17-4 victory.
The Red and Black rise to 8-6 overall and finish conference play at 6-2 in the NCAC. Wabash slips to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
The Bishops started strong, scoring four goals in the first quarter and allowing just one.
Henry Ross and
Wade Beckstrom went back-to-back to get things going, giving OWU a 2-0 lead in less than two minutes.
Will Siegenthaler would score two straight to finish off the period at 4-1.
Ohio Wesleyan's offense exploded in the second quarter to tally eight more before the half and make it a 12-2 game. The goals came in groups of five and three, split up by a lone goal by Wabash. Beckstrom and Siegenthaler started the first run. The two were joined by
Carson Fialho,
Cole Tulgestke, and Ross to complete an overall seven-goal run when added to the two to end the first quarter.
Garrett Smith got on the board with the first and third of the three to end the half, sandwiching a score by
Max Kemp.
The Battling Bishops slowed things down in the second half, scoring twice in the third quarter and three times in the fourth quarter while holding the Little Giants to just one per period. Fialho and
Blake Altman accounted for the two in the third.
Connor Lasch scored the first in the fourth, followed by a pair by
Cooper Heald as OWU ended ahead 17-4.
THE NUMBERS
The Red and Black took 58 shots, putting 31 on target. The Bishops picked up 51 ground balls and went 21-for-23 on the faceoff and 15-for-19 on clears.
Henry Ross recorded a team-high five points on two goals and three assists with two ground balls.
Will Siegenthaler scored three goals and added an assist for four points.
Garrett Smith and
Wade Beckstrom both finished with three points on two goals and one assist. Beckstrom collected two ground balls while Smith secured one.
Cooper Heald and
Carson Fialho had identical statlines with two goals and one ground ball.
Max Kemp put up a goal and an assist.
Cole Tulgestke,
Connor Lasch, and
Blake Altman all scored a goal. Tulgestke also gathered two ground balls.
Noah Citek led the faceoff force, going 13-for-14 with 12 ground balls.
Simon Hall was a perfect 6-for-6 with six ground balls.
Simon Stoller went 1-for-1 and
Chris Restaino went 1-for-2.
Tanner Hower,
Aidan Flowers,
Jed Tometsko,
Aidan Gennaro,
Connor Morley, and
Aiden Gryzlo led the defensive stats with a caused turnover each. Hower had two ground balls and Tometsko and Gryzlo each got one.
Jason Mosher (W, 5-5) made six saves and picked up two ground balls in the first three quarters in the cage.
Will White took over for the start of the fourth quarter, making four saves.
Jack Hartman finished the game.
