WOOSTER, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team continued conference competition on the road on Wednesday night at Wooster. The Battling Bishops ended their two-game skid, handily defeating the Scots 21-9.
OWU improves to 4-6 on the season and 2-2 within the NCAC. Wooster slips to 8-4 on the season and 2-1 in conference.
Carson Fialho got the Bishops on the board first, scoring just two minutes in on an assist from
Henry Ross. The Red and Black added two more following a one-goal Wooster response to take an early 3-1 lead with six minutes remaining in the opening period. Ross scored the second of the game, followed by
Blake Altman with the third. Wooster took one back around four minutes later before Ohio Wesleyan ended the quarter with two-straight from
Max Kemp and Fialho –
Garrett Smith and
Wade Beckstrom were in on the assists.
Those two goals were just the start of a seven-goal run for the Battling Bishops, continued on by five-straight to start the second quarter.
Will Siegenthaler netted his first followed by
Wade Beckstrom, Smith, Beckstrom again, and Altman. The Scots tallied one to end the run and the half with 23 seconds left, making it 10-3 at the break.
Wooster tried to claw back in the second half but the Bishops were just too much, outscoring the Scots 6-3 in the third and 5-3 in the fourth for the 21-9 victory. Ross scored four of the six in the third with the other two going to
Nick Sauline and Fialho. Kemp, Altman, Fialho,
Cooper Heald, and
Connor Lasch combined for the five goals in the fourth.
THE NUMBERS
The Red and Black cranked off a season-high 58 shots with 31 hitting their target. OWU went 25-for-33 on faceoffs and 14-for-19 on clears, causing a season-high 15 turnovers and picking up a season-high 56 ground balls.
Henry Ross tied his career high of seven points with five goals and two assists, officially surpassing 100 career goals on the night. He also had one caused turnover and three ground balls.
Wade Beckstrom tied his season high of six points with two goals and four assists alongside one caused turnover and four ground balls.
Max Kemp had the best night of his young career with two goals and three assists for five points, as well as one caused turnover and two ground balls.
Carson Fialho found the net a career-high four times and dished out one assist to total a career-high five points. He also grabbed two ground balls.
Blake Altman managed four points on three goals and one assist as well as one ground ball.
Garrett Smith finished with three points on one goal and two assists with two ground balls.
Will Siegenthaler recorded one goal and one assist for two points with one caused turnover.
Nick Sauline,
Connor Lasch, and
Cooper Heald had one goal each.
Ryan Zabatta totaled two assists, one caused turnover, and two ground balls.
Noah Citek claimed 15-of-19 faceoffs and collected a season-high 15 ground balls.
