MARIETTA, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University softball team traveled to Marietta for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The Battling Bishops dropped both ends, losing 14-2 in game one and 10-3 in game two.

The Bishops slip to 4-18 on the season. Marietta improves to 16-12.

GAME ONE: OHIO WESLEYAN 2, MARIETTA 14
OWU found themselves behind 6-0 after two innings in game one, allowing two runs in the first and four in the second. The Red and Black finally cracked the scoreboard in the third, starting with a double down the left field line by Chameron Vanden Eynden. She was then moved over to third by a Rylee Myers sacrifice bunt. Finally, Vanden Eynden came in to score on a sac fly by Rylea Gist. Marietta ended up erasing the run with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning, making it 7-1 after three.

Ohio Wesleyan nabbed another run in the fourth. This time it was Kelsey Shiley singling to center before being pinch-run for by Kennedy Dean. Dean then worked her way over to third with a steal and a Caity Journey single to right, ultimately scoring on an ensuing single up the middle by Natalie Russell. Again, it was all-for-naught as the Pioneers put up seven in the bottom of the fourth, eventually ending the game after five innings at 14-2.

Emma Dahlstrom (L, 0-4) got the start, going 1.1 innings with six earned runs, five hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Makenna Knisley (1.2 IP, 8 ER, 13 H, 1 BB, 1 SO) and Shelby Morris (1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 BB, 0 SO) pitched out of the bullpen.

GAME TWO: OHIO WESLEYAN 3, MARIETTA 10

The Battling Bishops finally put up three runs in the top of the fifth, but it was too-little-too-late as the game ended 10-3.

The three runs for the Red and Black came after Lexi Stratton and Kelsey Shiley reached on a single and a walk in their pinch-hit appearances. Jesse Spurling brought the two home with a double to left center. Peyton Beard came in to pinch-run for Spurling, scoring on a single by Caity Journey for Ohio Wesleyan's last run of the afternoon.
