GAMBIER, Ohio – The five-seed Ohio Wesleyan University women's tennis team went up against four-seed Oberlin on Friday morning in an NCAC Tournament Quarterfinal match. The meeting between the Battling Bishops and the Yeowomen went similarly to that of last week in the last regular season contest, with the Bishops taking a match in singles but ultimately being shut out overall, 4-0.
The Red and Black conclude their season at 11-7 after finishing with a 3-4 mark in conference play. Oberlin improves to 14-5 overall, having finished their NCAC schedule at 4-3.
OWU would fall behind in doubles after
Nadia Kremer and
Emma Pzedpelski conceded match three 6-2. Ohio Wesleyan evened it back up following a 6-4 match one victory by
Mallory Hannan and
Lily Hershey. Unfortunately,
Daniela Guzman and
Marissa Zaleski then suffered a 6-2 loss in match two to give Oberlin the point in doubles.
The singles matches went quickly as the Yeowomen clinched the 4-0 victory with three wins, leaving the remaining three matches unfinished. Hannan was defeated 6-1, 6-1 in match one, followed by Hershey at 6-0, 6-0 in match three, and
Evaleigh Garnett at 6-0, 6-3 in match four.
Frankie Nuss was behind 6-1, 3-1 in the second set of match two when the day came to an end. Pzedpelski and Guzman had yet to finish a game in their first sets.
