DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University field hockey team (8-2, 2-1 NCAC) hosted new NCAC program John Carroll (2-6, 1-2 NCAC) on Wednesday night for their annual Morgan's Message game – bringing awareness to student-athlete mental health. Junior forward
Mary Powers recorded her second hat trick of the season as the Battling Bishops dominated the first-ever meeting between the two programs, winning 8-2.
Ohio Wesleyan came out firing in the first quarter with 10 shot attempts. Three of those attempts broke through for goals as OWU roared out to a 3-0 lead in the first 15 minutes.
Reagan Shifflett started the scoring in the 11th minute, followed by Powers in the 14th and
Grace Ammon in the 15th. Ammon provided the assist on Powers' goal.

The offense did not slow down in the second quarter as another 15 shots for the Bishops yielded two more scores and extended the lead to 5-0 before the half.
Emma Reynolds opened the quarter with the first goal in the 17th minute.
Emmerson Crist closed out the half with her second of the season in the 29th.
The third quarter was the only in which the Red and Black were kept off the scoreboard. John Carroll took advantage of OWU's scoreless quarter to take a goal back, scoring in the 32nd minute and ending the period at 5-1.
Ohio Wesleyan made up for lost time in the fourth quarter with three more goals to close out a dominant win. Powers put in the first two to complete her hat trick, scoring in the 46th and 54th – both assisted by Ammon. Ammon netted the third – her second of the night – in the 57th. The Blue Streaks snuck in a consolation goal in the 59th minute to make it an 8-2 final score.
THE NUMBERS
Ohio Wesleyan spent the majority of the game on the offensive end of the field with a season-high 45 shots, a season-high 35 of which were on target. Defensively, the Bishops held JCU to just four shots, two on target. The Red and Black took 12 penalty corners compared to two for John Carroll. OWU did not make a save, but forced the Blue Streaks to make 27.
Mary Powers recorded her second hat trick of the season with her ninth, 10th, and 11th goals of the year, adding to her team-leading 25 points.
Grace Ammon netted her fifth and sixth goals of the season and set new career highs with three assists and seven points. She is currently second on the Bishops with 19 points.
Emmerson Crist,
Emma Reynolds, and
Reagan Shifflett scored the three remaining goals. Reynolds stays tied for second on OWU with six goals and ranks fourth with 13 points. Shifflett is now tied for fourth with five goals and sits third with 14 points. Crist's was her second goal of the season.
All three Red and Black keepers saw action.
Payton Mindel (8-2) played the first half and was awarded the win.
Jane Shields subbed in for the third quarter followed by
Elizabeth Aguirre for the fourth.
