Holly served as head coach at nearby Big Walnut High School for 5 years and is the Eagles' winningest baseball coach.  He also served as head coach at Cardington-Lincoln High School for one season.  During his 6 seasons as a head coach, Holly has won 2 district titles, a regional title and made one state semifinal appearance.  Holly also was pitching coach at Columbus St. Francis DeSales High School for 3 years.

He is a 2002 graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where he compiled an 8-2 record during his one season with the Cougars.  Holly began his collegiate career at Ohio Dominican University, where he was a 2-time all-league selection, compiled a 24-2 record, and pitched in the national championship series.
