Meet the Bishops:  Maddie Lancaster

Sport:  Women's Lacrosse

Major:  History education

Class Year:  2019

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
When I came to the school for my recruit visit, I interviewed with the education department for a fellowship and I just fell in love with the program.  I also immediately felt a connection with coach Conley and the team.  It just seemed like the best fit for me.

Why did you choose your major?
My number one goal in life is to have as many positive impacts on as many people’s lives as I possibly can.  In my own life, besides family members, those that had the biggest impact on me were my teachers and coaches.  Now, I want to turn around and be that kind of role model in someone else’s life. When it came to picking my concentration, I have always been greatly infatuated with history so it just seemed like a natural pick.  History is so fascinating and you can apply it to modern life.

Why did you choose your position, and what do you like most about it?
Currently I am mainly a defender.  I used to be a midfielder but over the last year or so I have kind fallen into playing solely defense.  It is just where my team needed me at the time and I am willing to play wherever for the overall benefit of the team.  My favorite part of defense is caused turnovers.  There is nothing better than getting a good check off and getting the ball to your offensive side.  I honestly think caused turnovers are more exciting than scoring a goal.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get where you are?
One person who has really helped me get to where I am is my teammate, Kelly Coffyn.  She is my number one supporter and her faith in me gives me faith in myself.  So many times I have wanted to just give up but she always pulls me back on track.  Kelly’s leadership is a type of leadership that everyone should strive to accomplish. On top of being an incredible teammate and friend, she is an amazing goalie and I know that she always has my back -- it is an honor to protect her in goal.

What is your favorite place to eat in Delaware, and what is your go-to dish there?
El Vaquero.  I am absolutely obsessed with their chicken tacos.

What is your theme song?
My theme song would probably have to be Michael Fronti and Spearhead’s “Say Hey (I Love You).”
