Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Antonio Romanelli of the Ohio Wesleyan men's soccer team

Class Year: 2020

Major: Finance economics and accounting

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because of the mix between academics and athletics. I was able to come here and get a good education in both finance and the liberal arts. On top of that, OWU has an incredible men’s soccer program, one of the best in the country in all divisions. The mix of those two were very hard to turn away from.

How/Why did you choose your major?
I chose finance because I want to be an entrepreneur and, to me, this was the best background knowledge I could gain to help me reach my goals. Having a major in finance will allow me to have a wide range of knowledge that I can use as an entrepreneur.

What position do you play and what do you like most about it?
I play center midfielder. I like that, at center-mid, you can experience all facets of the game at any given moment. I also like how a center midfielder has to think about the game as it goes on and make adjustments.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get where are you?
Drew Riggle and Joe Brush are two of my best friends and teammates here that have helped me through a lot. Whether it be through the good times, or recovering from injury, they have always been willing to lend a hand which goes much further in my mind than sports itself. Their personality and selflessness is also brought out on the field, which is why they are great people.

How do you feel about your coach’s recent achievement of being the first NCAA men’s soccer coach to lead his team to 700 victories?
In a word, it is simply unbelievable. There are many coaches who spent their lives at their respected school and did very well, but there is no coach who can say that, in 42 years at the same University, they accomplished 700 wins and a win percentage of around 82%. What Jay has done for the OWU men’s soccer program is beyond what anyone has ever done. He is a legend, and will be forever.

What is your favorite place to eat in Delaware and what is your go-to dish there?
There are several good places to eat in Delaware. However, my favorite place to eat in Delaware would have to be Pulp. Mainly because, who doesn’t like smoothies?

What sport other than your own would you like to try?
I love to play golf. I like it because I have played team-oriented sports my whole life (soccer and basketball) and golf is very individualistic. It offers a different challenge to me.

Which movie or TV show would you like to star in and why?
Seinfeld. The humor in that show is timeless and I think acting with Jerry Seinfeld, Michael Richards, and Jason Alexander would be incredible.
