I'm very dedicated ... I may not always be the best player, but I refuse to be outworked

Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Caitlyn Smith of the Ohio Wesleyan women's soccer team

Class Year: 2021

Major: HHK, Exercise Science, and Psychology

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I found OWU because my brother plays football here. I came to his games and fell in love with campus and then I talked to Nicole, the soccer coach, and knew it's where I wanted to be!

How/Why did you choose your major?
I chose my major because in 8th grade I tore my ACL playing soccer and had to go through therapy and rehab. I decided then that I was going to be a physical therapist and I've stuck with it since!

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I've spent my whole life playing sports like soccer, basketball, dance, baseball, and softball. Eventually, by junior year of high school, I narrowed it down to soccer and decided I wasn't ready to give up playing the game I love. Soccer is such a big part of my life and it has helped me learn a lot about myself, so I began to look at schools I could play at.

What position do you play and why do you like it?
I play center back for the team. I've always enjoyed playing defense and couldn't imagine playing anywhere else on the field. This position comes with a lot of responsibility and it requires me to step up and be a leader.

What are your strengths as an athlete?
As an athlete, I'd say I'm very dedicated. Very rarely are there days when I'm not running or lifting in the offseason. During the season, most of the team shows up early and stays late so we can make each other better every single day.  I may not always be the best player, but I refuse to be outworked.

If you could have a super power, what would it be and why?
If I could have a super power, I think I'd like to be able to fly. It'd be cool not to have to walk anywhere and go wherever I want!

What is your go-to snack after a long game?
After a long game my go-to snack is probably the microwaveable mac and cheese bowls.

What kind of music do you like to listen to before a game?
Sometimes before a game I listen to whatever the team has on, which is usually some type of rap/r&b pump-up stuff. When I have my head phones on I actually listen to slower / chill music like Blackbear or Khalid. I like to be more composed, not hype and really get focused.
