I battled my way back and ended up playing half the season and worked my way into the starting line up before having to get knee reconstruction surgery.

Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Tia Karras of the Ohio Wesleyan women's basketball team.

Class Year: 2021

Major: Health and human kinetics: exercise science

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan for many different reasons. This university had what I wanted to study and the academic rigor met my needs. The basketball program also played an important role in making my decision. I really liked the coaches and the team when I first visited! OWU is located in a nice area with a lot to do, and I'm not too far from home.

How/Why did you choose your major?
I chose exercise science as my major because I have always been a fan of science and the body as a whole. I plan on becoming an occupational therapist, so exercise science was the route for me.

What position do you play and what do you like about it?
My position is shooting guard. I like being versatile in my game and adding new skills every day.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose to compete in sports here because there is a good balance between academics and athletics. I loved how our team's primary focus was academics, and sports came secondary to that. With that being said, we still take basketball very seriously, yet understand we are here for an education.

What athletic accomplishment are you most proud of?
Athletically, my biggest accomplishment is returning to play after my injury last season. On the first day of practice last year, I dislocated my knee cap and was out of practice and games for two months. I battled my way back and ended up playing half the season and worked my way into the starting line up before having to get knee reconstruction surgery. I am looking to make another comeback with this season!

What event/sport other than your own would you like to try?
I played tennis in high school and loved everything about it. I would love to pick up a racket and play again!

Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with?
My paternal grandfather, Steph Curry, and Princess Diana

What movie or TV show would you like to star on and why?
I would like to star on the show "This is Us". This is one of my favorite TV shows and I think it would be super fun to act on it!
