Meet the Bishops:  Get to know a little about Ahmed Hamed of the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team.

Name:  Ahmed Hamed

Class year:  Senior

Majors:  Accounting, Politics and government

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because of the unique opportunities available to students like travel-learning, internships, and other experiential learning opportunities.

How/Why did you choose your major?
I chose accounting because I knew that I wanted to have a good understanding of business, and accounting helps people understand the underlying processes and structure of business. I chose politics and government because I enjoy reading and learning about politics, particularly international politics, and I wanted to integrate it into my future career.

What event/sport other than your own would you like to try?
I would enjoy trying out triathlons, they seem like a great show of grit on the part of the athletes.

What athletic or academic achievement are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of being awarded Division III All-Academic Cross Country honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association the past few seasons. An athlete must be both in the top percentage of finishers at the regional cross country meet and show high academic performance, making it more difficult to achieve.

What did you do to put yourself in that position to achieve that goal/accomplishment?
I try to be as consistent as possible in both my training for cross country and track while staying focused and committed to my work in the classroom. Having good time management helps me stay afloat in both areas.

What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation I am working with Ernst and Young in Chicago while I work on applying for law school.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get to where you are?
All my teammates push me hard every day to be my best, they each play a role in motivating me to perform and (they) push me during practice and in competition.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
To not be afraid of success. Sometimes we are scared because we have the potential to perform well in some aspect of our life, but we’re afraid of failure so we never give ourselves the chance to succeed.

When you're having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
I try to remember that bad days and bad things happen, that they’re temporary, and that I need to focus on what I can control in that moment.

What are your three favorite movies?
Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, Disney's Hercules, Lord of the Rings.
