...it was a great opportunity to both compete in baseball at the college level and receive a great, hands-on education...

Name:  Luigi Russo

Class year:  2022

Major:  Exercise science

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because it was a great opportunity to both compete in baseball at the college level and receive a great, hands-on education with smaller class sizes and many opportunities.

Why did you choose your major?
I have always been interested in fitness and how it relates to overall health and athletic performance.  I think being active is so important, and my major allows me to learn about what happens to our body at both a macro and micro level when exercising.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
Sports is what drew me to Ohio Wesleyan in the first place.  Being from Canada, I wasn't recruited in a very normal way like some other athletes from the Ohio area.  After emailing my choice schools, and receiving a phone call from Coach Mott I jumped at the opportunity to attend Ohio Wesleyan.

What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
My favorite memory at Ohio Wesleyan is going down to Florida with my teammates on spring break, and honestly just riding the bus to and from every game.  Playing games, telling jokes, and watching movies together will be the moments I'll cherish and miss the most about OWU baseball once I graduate.

What do you intend to do after graduation?
After graduation I intend to attend medical school back home in British Columbia and eventually become a team physician for a professional sports team.

What is your number one goal, personal or team, for this season?
My goals for this season are to reach the conference tournament in Chillicothe and leave the baseball program better than I found it by teaching and leading the underclassmen.

What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of?
My favorite athletic achievement is hitting my first collegiate home run my freshman year against Manchester.  My family traveled over 3000 miles to watch me play, and hitting a home run with them in attendance made it that much more special.

If you could visit another time, when would it be and why?
If I could visit another time I would visit the early 1990s because I would be able to see the Toronto Blue Jays win back-to-back World Series.

What is your spirit animal and why?
My spirit animal is probably a beaver because it is Canada's national animal or maybe a parrot because I never stop talking.

What is your favorite place to eat in Delaware, and what is your go-to dish there?
My favorite place to eat in Delaware is definitely Typhoon and my go-to dish is the sushi boat with as many types of sushi you could think of.
