...There is a beautiful campus here at OWU, which is another reason why I decided to come here.

Name:  Drew Thornton

Class year:  2024

Major:  Exercise science

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
OWU has a great location, being so close to Columbus, and it is close to my home, which is something that was important in my decision.  I wanted to be able to see family often and OWU allows me to do that.  There is a beautiful campus here at OWU, which is another reason why I decided to come here.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I grew up playing football and being around the game.  It was something that came naturally to me and I ended up falling in love with the game, which is why I chose to come play football here.

Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
Before each game, I spend time reading in my Bible and in prayer to get my mind right and know what is ultimately important in life.

What are your strengths as an athlete (as an individual)?
One of the biggest strengths I have is my work ethic.  I try to do everything to the best of my ability and I think that's a big reason why I am where I am today.

What event/sport other than your own would you like to try?
Golf

What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of?  What did you do to put yourself in position to achieve that?
I'm most proud of being in the Top 50 student-athletes last year at OWU.  It's something that came with a lot of hard work and dedication in order to stay on top of my schoolwork and football.  Staying disciplined and (keeping) my priorities set in the right order are the biggest things I did, (along with) not putting too much pressure on myself to be perfect.  I always do my best to be my best, but if my best isn't good enough, then that's something I can live with.  I can't live with failing and knowing I could've done better if I had tried harder.

What are your plans for after graduation?
To pursue a career in medical sales

What is your favorite place to eat in Delaware, and what is your go-to dish there?
J. Gumbo's. Honey sriracha chicken.

Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with?
Jesus Christ, Phil Robertson, Tim Tebow

What is your ideal travel destination?
Hawai'i

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a student-athlete?
Playing a sport in college is absolutely a grind and not for everybody, but the relationships you form with your teammates are worth it.  As a freshman coming to college, I was able to already have great friendships formed by the time school started because of football, which helped me out tremendously.

What is your favorite season and why?
Fall, because that's when football is.  I also think the weather can still be warm at times but it isn't super cold either.  Fall golf is amazing as well.
