...I love working with kids and seeing them make connections when they are learning and understanding content.

Name:  Madison Schumacher

Class year:  2025

Major:  Inclusive elementary education with a psychology minor

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because I instantly felt at home when I came on my visit.  I instantly felt a sense of belonging and family with the team.

Why did you choose your major?
I chose education because I love working with kids and seeing them make connections when they are learning and understanding content.  I also want to be able to make an impact on my future students by helping them develop into good students and even better individuals.

What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
My favorite memory is the bus ride back from winning the NCAC tournament last year.  Everyone was singing and dancing the whole ride home.

Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
I have a certain stretching routine before games during warm-ups.

What are your strengths as an athlete (as an individual)?
I think one of my biggest strengths is encouraging others while keeping a level head.

What is your number one goal, personal or team, for this season?
Getting bag tags and working to get to the Sweet 16 this year.

What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of? What did you do to put yourself in a position to achieve that?
I am most proud of getting on the Dean's List during my time at Ohio Wesleyan.  I usually try to plan out what assignments I have due each week and get them done ahead of time.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get where you are?
My high school coach, Coach (Josh) Clark, has always been one of my biggest supporters on and off the court throughout my athletic career.  My parents also inspire and push me to be the best person and athlete I can be.  The entire OWUWBB program wants to develop you into the best athlete you can be but also develop you as a person as well.

What is your favorite place to eat in Delaware, and what is your go-to dish there?
My favorite place to eat in Delaware would be Son of Thurman and a cheeseburger with fries.

Which reality show would you like to star on and why?
Growing up, I watched Big Brother with my family and I always wanted to compete in the competitions.  Those competitions are nothing compared to Coach (Stacey Ungashick Lobdell)’s workouts.

What is your ideal travel destination?
My ideal travel destination would be Greece mostly because my family loves Mamma Mia.  I would love to be able to experience the rich culture and history.

If you could visit another time, when would it be and why?
I would probably visit the '80s to be able to see how my parents grew up.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a student-athlete?
Being a student-athlete is hard but extremely rewarding.  You gain a group of people who stick with you through anything and are continuously supporting you.
