...Being a part of a band of brothers who work together and strive for greatness for their team and individually was what I was looking for in my search and Ohio Wesleyan provided that.

Name:  Simon Leck

Class year:  2025

Major:  Health and human kinetics

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan for teacher-student connections on campus.  I find that to be the most important part of anyone's academic career because teachers serve as the students' mentors throughout their four years of learning their major and possibly throughout life.

Why did you choose your major?
I chose to major in health and human kinetics because I have played sports since I was a kid and don't plan on leaving anytime soon.  I've always wanted to do something with sports and the medical field.  Health and human kinetics allows that for me and has caused my fascination with the human body and how it works to grow since I pursued this path.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose to run cross country and track at Ohio Wesleyan because from the beginning I felt like I was welcomed with open arms into this team.  Being a part of a band of brothers who work together and strive for greatness for their team and individually was what I was looking for in my search and Ohio Wesleyan provided that.

What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
My favorite memory on the Ohio Wesleyan cross country and track teams was breaking 2 minutes for the first time in the 800-meter run my freshman year in Selby Stadium where friends and family applauded me for finally reaching my goal for that year.

What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of?
My most recent athletic accomplishment that I am most proud of is breaking the school 2-mile time trial record at the beginning of cross country season and holding the title of school record holder in the 2-mile time trial.

What are your plans for after graduation?
My plan after graduating from OWU is to take a gap year so I can catch up on a couple of classes I need in order to go to graduate school.

What is your favorite movie character and why?
My favorite movie/TV show character is Zuko from "Avatar: The Last Airbender" because I can relate so much to Zuko with the experiences I've had in my life, specifically in "redeeming myself" from failure.  Zuko has one of the greatest character arcs in TV history because he realized he was never meant to be the bad guy, he was supposed to be the good guy.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a student-athlete?
Some advice I would give to someone who is considering becoming a student-athlete is that being a student-athlete isn't easy.  It will be difficult.  It will be fun.  It will take time.  It will go by quickly.  It requires sacrifice but it will be worth it in the end.
