Name:  Frankie Nuss

Class year:  2027

Majors:  Management economics, biology

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose to attend Ohio Wesleyan because they were the only university that could guarantee I would receive excellent instruction in my courses while also experiencing world-class learning outside of the classroom.

Why did you choose your majors?
I want to work as a science translator, utilizing my understanding of the sciences, business background, and interpersonal skills in order to make scientific discoveries applicable and accessible to a wider and more diverse audience.  Both of my majors will prepare me for this!

Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
I always have to clear all the tennis balls off my court before I play a point.

What is your number one goal, personal or team, for this season?
I hope to contribute to an improved team record this season.  Last season we beat Oberlin for the first time in more than 15 years, so I hope we can achieve something like that this year!

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get where you are?
I am extremely thankful for all of my teammates and captains.  These girls are always by my side on the court, in the classroom, and in my life.  Having them as friends and teammates has been one of the best parts of my OWU experience.

What did you study on your OWU Connection trip to Japan?
I attended the 7th International Soil Classification Congress in Hokkaido, Japan.  I met with soil classification experts from many different countries, learned about new soil science updates and research, and visited 9 soil profiles across the Hokkaido prefecture.  The soils in Japan are especially remarkable because of the prevalent volcanic material.

Which experience(s) of your trip were the most memorable, and how did they affect you?
One of the soil profiles we visited was located in a remote Japanese forest on a mountain.  We rode two buses and walked a portion of the Jinjayama trail to reach the profile, all while wearing helmets and bear spray due to the threat of a bear attack.  I never imagined I would be on the other side of the globe, learning about Japanese soils in the middle of a forest on a mountain in Japan, while simultaneously watching out for bears!

What is your ideal travel destination?
After my OWU Connection trip, my answer is Japan.  The places I visited were very beautiful and I want to learn more about Japanese culture.  The food was also really different and good!

What is your favorite season and why?
I prefer the spring and fall since I don't have to use as much sunscreen when I play tennis!

Which reality show would you like to star on and why?
I would want to star on a cooking show as one of the judges so I could try all of the food!  I always get hungry watching those shows.
