...I really like the small classes to be able to get 1-on-1 connections with professors...

Name:  Ryan Duckworth

Class year:  2025

Major:  Communication

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because I really like the small classes to be able to get 1-on-1 connections with professors, and at the same time it's close to home for me.  Additionally, I wanted an opportunity to play baseball at a high level.

Why did you choose your major?
The reason I chose communication is because it offered skills like critical thinking and effective communication on such a broad scale.

What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
Beating Denison when they were ranked No. 2 in the country.

What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of?
Taking the Kaufman Cup from Capital University in back-to-back years.

What did you do to put yourself in position to achieve that?
Our coach put us in the position to win these games by the right preparation, good attention to detail in practice and getting 1 percent better every day.  Doing everything with a focus and intent to get better will allow good things (to) happen in the game.

What are your plans for after graduation?
I'm actively exploring opportunities in sales, looking to use my communication skills and competitive drive to contribute to a dynamic team.  I'm excited to start my career in a role focused on building relationships and driving growth.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
The super power that I would choose is to fly super fast.  It would be nice to have this ability because I wouldn't have to pay for transportation.

What is your favorite movie character and why?
Batman in "The Dark Knight Rises."  I love Batman in this movie because he overcomes so much adversity and, plain and simple, he's a badass.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a student-athlete?
Enjoy it, but be ready to put your nose to the grindstone and work.  At the same time you'll meet your best friends on the team, so don't get lost or hang up on the wins and stay in the moment and just have fun.  It's a game.

What is your dream job and why?
My dream job is to be a leader on a sales team in the future.
