Ohio Wesleyan 4, Wooster 0

Senior back Brian Greene (Beavercreek) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the sixth minute, starting second-ranked Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wooster on Wednesday in Wooster.

With the win, Ohio Wesleyan clinches a share of the NCAC championship. The Bishops, 6-0-1 in the NCAC, can win the conference championship outright with a win or tie on Saturday.

The NCAC title is Ohio Wesleyan's third straight, sixth in the last 7 years, and 19th overall in the 27 seasons of NCAC competition.

Ohio Wesleyan will be the No. 1 seed in next week's conference tournament and will host a tournament semifinal game on Wednesday. The win also extended Ohio Wesleyan's unbeaten string in NCAC games to 30 games (29-0-1).

Greene put the Bishops on the scoreboard at the 5:45 mark, fielding a crossing pass from freshman midfielder Paolo Bucci (Dublin/Bishop Watterson) and scoring from about 6 yards out.

Junior back Andrew Miller (Medina) added to the Bishop lead in the 38th minute, making a long run down the left side and sending a low shot past Wooster keeper Luke Butcher for his first collegiate goal.

Junior forward Matt Bonfini (Dublin/Coffman) set up both Ohio Wesleyan goals in the second half. He ran a give-and-go with senior midfielder Tyler Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) in the 70th minute, with Wall finishing the chance to make it a 3-0 game. In the 73rd minute, Bonfini sent a through ball to junior midfielder Dylan Stone (Easton, Conn./Barlow), with Stone scoring to account for the 4-0 final.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wooster, 25-2. Sophomore Paul Hendricks (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) made 1 save and junior Steve Gobel (Wilbraham, Mass./Loomis Chaffee (Conn.)) was not tested in completing the shutout in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Taylor Takacs and Butcher combined for 12 saves for the Fighting Scots.
