Ohio Wesleyan 3, Otterbein 1

Junior forward Travis Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) had a hand in each of Ohio Wesleyan's 3 goals and senior forward Tyler Bryant (Chillicothe/Unioto) had a goal and an assist as 21st-ranked Ohio Wesleyan defeated Otterbein in non-conference action on Wednesday at Roy Rike Field.

The Bishops took the lead just over 2 minutes into the game when Bryant ripped a shot from the right side that went off the hand of Cardinal goalkeeper Alex Kamphaus and trickled over the goal line. Wall was credited with an assist on the play.

Otterbein evened the game just over 3 minutes later. The Cardinals had a restart about 40 yards from the Bishop goal, and Richard Rice sent the ball into the Ohio Wesleyan penalty area. Byron Horton got his head on the ball, which bounced off the right post and into the net to tie the game with 39:46 left in the first half.

The Bishops took the lead for good exactly 11 minutes into the game. Bryant's shot was blocked by a Cardinal defender, but Bryant got his own rebound and played the ball to Wall, who finished for the go-ahead score.

Ohio Wesleyan added an insurance goal late in the first half when freshman midfielder Matt Dodrill (Westerville/North) played the ball into the box from the left side, and Wall redirected it to senior midfielder Tyler Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington), who finished from right in front to make it 3-1.

The Cardinal defense kept the game close during the second half, most notably after an Ohio Wesleyan corner in the 59th minute when Tyler Wall's shot got past Kamphaus but was cleared off the line near the right post by an Otterbein defender.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Otterbein, 23-14. Sophomore Paul Hendricks (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) made 6 saves in the Bishop goal, and Kamphaus finished with 5 saves for the Cardinals.
