Bryant Goal Lifts Bishops Over Blue Jays

Senior forward Tyler Bryant (Chillicothe/Unioto) scored in the 72nd minute to lift 13th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan over Elmhurst in the Bishops' season opener in the first round of the Bob Baptista Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College on Friday in Wheaton, Ill.

The Bishops will take on the host Thunder on Saturday in the tournament's second round.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Blue Jays outshoot the Bishops by a count of 8-6, Ohio Wesleyan had the edge during the second half.

Bryant fielded a pass from junior forward Travis Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) and pushed a shot past Elmhurst keeper Sebastia Domczewski with 18:14 left in regulation time.

The Bishops would end up with a 6-4 edge in shots during the second half, with 3 of those on goal.

Ohio Wesleyan and Elmhurst finished with 12 shots apiece. Sophomore Paul Hendricks (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) made 2 saves in posting the shutout in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. David Domczewski finished with 4 saves for the Blue Jays.
