Wheaton 2, Ohio Wesleyan 1

Senior midfielder Tyler Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) scored to erase a 1-0 second-half deficit, but Wheaton answered with a goal later in the half to take a win over 13th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan in the second round of the Bob Baptista Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College on Saturday in Wheaton, Ill.

The first half was a scoreless battle befitting 2 of the most successful teams in NCAA Division III men's soccer. Ohio Wesleyan and Wheaton share the NCAA record of 32 Division III playoff appearances.

Ohio Wesleyan earned a pair of corner kicks during the first 10 minutes of play, but Wall's header off the second was wide left.

Wheaton's Cory Weaver put a couple of shots on goal during the last 5 minutes of the period, only to see sophomore Paul Hendricks (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) make the save each time.

The Thunder took the lead in the 57th minute on a goal by Cameron Risma, with Drew Golz and Chad Musgraves credited with assists on the play.

Ohio Wesleyan answered with a score less than 3 minutes later as senior back Eric Laipple (Westerville/South) found Wall for the tying goal.

Musgraves put the Thunder ahead to stay with a score in the 75th minute.

Junior forward Travis Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) got a few looks at the Thunder goal during the closing minutes, but 2 of his shots were high and a third was stopped by Wheaton keeper Ryan Seager.

Wheaton outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 13-12. Hendricks finished with 6 saves, while Seager recorded 3 saves for the Thunder.
