Ohio Wesleyan 3, Wittenberg 0

Junior midfielder Paolo Bucci (Dublin/Bishop Watterson) broke a scoreless tie, and sophomore midfielder Colton Bloecher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) had a hand in a pair of insurance scores as 23rd-ranked Ohio Wesleyan took a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wittenberg on Saturday in Springfield.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wittenberg, 12-2, during the first half, but Tiger netminder Jeff Mengerink came up with 4 saves to keep the game scoreless.  Junior midfielder Matt Shadoan (Dublin/Scioto) had 3 shots stopped by Mengerink, and Bloecher had a drive stopped in the 38th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Paul Hendricks (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) got into the act early in the second half, tracking down a header by Wittenberg's Alejandro Garcia to preserve the scoreless tie.

Bucci put the Bishops on top in the 62nd minute, taking a pass from senior back Kit North (Powell/Bishop Watterson) and scoring from close range.

With the Tigers looking for the equalizer, Bloecher helped slam the door on their comeback hopes.

First, Bloecher set up an insurance goal, crossing the ball from the middle to the right side to junior midfielder Jon Stegner (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), whose one-time shot found the back of the net.

Just under 2 minutes later, Bloecher fired a shot that Mengerink saved, but Blocher controlled the rebound and scored from point-blank range to extend the Bishop lead to 3-0.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wittenberg, 25-7.  Hendricks made 2 saves in recording the shutout in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.  Mengerink finished with 7 saves in the Tiger goal.
