Ohio Wesleyan 3, Allegheny 0

Sophomore midfielder Colton Bloecher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) had a hand in all 3 Ohio Wesleyan goals as the 25th-ranked Bishops posted a key North Coast Athletic Conference win over the 20th-ranked Gators on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.

The win moves Ohio Wesleyan into a tie with Allegheny atop the NCAC standings, each with a record of 5-1-1 going into the final week of conference play.  The top 4 teams in the standings will advance to the NCAC tournament, to be held next week on the campuses of competing institutions.

Each team tested the other's keeper twice during the first half of the opening period, but the final 20 minutes of the half was contested primarly away from the goals.  Bloecher's shot on goal in the 27th minute would be the last one of the half.

Ohio Wesleyan struck quickly in the second half, when freshman midfielder Brian Schaefer (Chatham, N.J.) had his shot blocked by the Gator defense, only to have Bloecher jump on the rebound and blast it home from close range in the 49th minute.

Less than 4 minutes later, it was Bloecher on the offensive again, this time taking a through ball from junior midfielder Jon Stegner (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and hitting a shot from point-blank range to make it a 2-0 game.

Bloecher finished off the evening's scoring by setting up junior midfielder Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center.Olentangy Orange) on a breakaway, with Rieger finishing the chance in the 71st minute.

Meanwhile, the Ohio Wesleyan defense clamped down on the Gators, allowing Allegheny only 1 shot during the second half.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Allegheny, 15-3.  Senior goalkeeper Paul Hendricks (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) made 2 saves in posting the shutout in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.  John Lichina finished with 6 saves in the Gator goal.
