DePauw scored early in the first half and held on to record a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Roy Rike Field.
Ohio Wesleyan nearly took the lead twice during the early moments of the game, first in the second minute when DePauw keeper Caroline Kerr tracked down a rocket off the foot of junior midfielder Elizabeth Riggio (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park), and then in the sixth minute, when a drive by senior midfielder Jessie Huschart (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) hit the crossbar.
The Tigers took the lead at the 7:36 mark, when Dana Sprague centered the ball from the left end line to Megann Lear, who fired a shot into the right side of the Ohio Wesleyan goal.
Junior goalkeeper Hannah Zacharias (Marysville) made sure the score remained 1-0, tipping a shot by DePauw's Chloe Jacob over the crossbar in the 31st minute.
The Bishops turned up the offensive pressure during the second half, but Kerr recorded 5 saves during the period to protect the lead.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot DePauw, 20-10. Zacharias had 3 saves in the Bishop goal, while Kerr finished with 8 saves for DePauw.
