Junior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) and senior wing Vaughn Spaulding (Reynoldsburg) scored 3 points apiece during a late 10-0 run that sealed Ohio Wesleyan's non-conference win over Capital on Wednesday in Columbus.

The Crusaders had closed to within 52-51 on Ben Jackson's jumper with 2:54 left in regulation time.

Rieger answered with a 3-pointer on Ohio Wesleyan's ensuing possession, and after a Capital miss, senior guard Andy Winters (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) hit a pair of free throws to extend the margin to 57-51 with 1:17 remaining.

Spaulding was fouled and hit the first of 2 free throws at the :55 mark, and junior post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley) then stole the ball and set up senior post Marshall Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) for a dunk that stretched the Bishop lead to 60-51.  Spaulding added a pair of free throws with :26 left to give Ohio Wesleyan a 62-51 lead.

Capital took an early 6-0 lead on a dunk by Michael Sommer and a pair of hoops from Mitch Westerheide, only to see Ohio Wesleyan roar back to tie the game at 8-8 as Rieger hit 3 jumpers and Winters added another.

The Bishops threatened to pull away midway through the second half, moving to a 45-35 lead on Morris' lay-in with 11:35 to go, but Capital clawed back with 3-pointers by A.J. Dixon and Spencer Niekamp, and after a pair of Sommer free throws and a Westerheide jumper from the lane, the game was tied at 46 with 8:18 left.

Rieger's jumper with 6:43 remaining broke a 48-48 tie, and a tip-in by junior wing Dre White (Lima/Bath) gave Ohio Wesleyan a 52-48 lead, setting up the thrilling conclusion.

Rieger led the Bishops with 16 points, while Morris finished with a double-double at 12 points and 10 boards, and Winters added 10 points and 4 assists.

Westerheide led Capital with 18 points.
