Junior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange), senior wing Vaughn Spaulding (Reynoldsburg), and senior guard Andy Winters (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) hit 3-pointers as Ohio Wesleyan raced to an early lead, and Winters set a school single-game record as Ohio Wesleyan topped Pitt-Greensburg in the first round of the McDonald's Holiday Tournament, hosted by Bluffton College on Friday in Bluffton.

The Bishops advance to Saturday's championship game to take on Bluffton, a 106-65 winner over Wright State-Lake in Friday's nightcap.  The Ohio Wesleyan-Bluffton clash is set to tip off at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Rieger hit a lay-in on the opening possession of the game, and Spaulding, Rieger, and Winters followed with 3-pointers for an 11-3 Ohio Wesleyan lead less than 3 minutes into the contest.

Brian Heinle answered with a 3-pointer for Pitt-Greensburg to bring the Bobcats within 11-6, but a Spaulding dunk, followed by a Spaulding lay-in and another Rieger 3-pointer, extanded the margin to 20-8 with 12:59 left in the first half.

The Bishops pulled away from there, taking a 50-25 lead at the half thanks to Rieger's buzzer-beating 3-pointer, and leading by as many as 43 points during the closing minutes.

Rieger led the Bishops with 23 points, hitting 5 of 10 from beyond the arc.  Spaulding finished with 14 points.

Winters set a school record with 14 assists, breaking the mark of 13 set by Joe Thomas in 1977 and tied by Dirk Miller in 1989 and by Winters earlier this season.  Winters was credited with 12 assists during the first half alone.  He also finished with 14 points and shared the team lead with 6 rebounds.
