Men's Basketball Receives NCAA Division III Tournament Bid

DELAWARE, OHIO — The Ohio Wesleyan University men’s basketball team will compete in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Friday at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa., it was announced Monday.

Ohio Wesleyan will play Hobart (N.Y.) in a first-round matchup at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, to be followed by a first-round matchup between Castleton (Vt.) State and Cabrini at 7:30 p.m. at the Nerney Field House in Dixon Center on the Cabrini campus.  Directions

The winners of Friday's games will play in a second-round game at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Cabrini.

Ohio Wesleyan (20-7) received an at-large invitation to the NCAA Division III tournament. The Battling Bishops finished third in the North Coast Athletic Conference championship race with an 11-5 record, then advanced to the NCAC tournament semifinals before falling to tournament champion Wooster. Ohio Wesleyan is making its first NCAA Division III playoff appearance since 2008. This is Ohio Wesleyan's third NCAA Division III tournament appearance.  Ohio Wesleyan and Hobart have never met on the hardwood.

Hobart (22-5) received an at-large invitation to the NCAA Division III tournament.  The Statesmen lost to Skidmore, 69-66, in the championship game of the Liberty League tournament on Saturday.  Hobart had finished atop the Liberty League regular-season standings with a 14-2 record, 3 games ahead of Skidmore.  The Statesmen are making their first NCAA Division III appearance since 2001 and their second overall.

Castleton State (19-9) won the North Atlantic Conference tournament, defeating Colby-Sawyer, 102-76, in the championship game. The Spartans finished in a tie for first place in the NAC standings with a 15-3 record. Castleton State is making its first appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament since 2004, and its second appearance overall.

Cabrini (26-1) won the Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament with an 86-79 win over Keystone.  The Cavaliers ran the table during CSAC regular-season play with an 18-0 record. Cabrini is making its third straight NCAA Division III playoff appearance and its 10th overall.

The winner of Saturday's second-round game will advance to a sectional to be held March 9-10 on the campus of one of the competing institutions.
